こんにちは、ニベイファンデーション、コーディネーターの岡田と申します。弊ファンデーションでは、毎月一回、日本の文化を近隣に広めるための講演会を催しております。先日の講演会で、着物の着付けの先生がいらっしゃって、弊ファンデーション内での着付け教室を考えております。
その第一段として、着物の歴史と、着物の種類などについて、英語でご講演いただける方を探しています。どなたかご紹介いただけますか？６月の第三か第四の火曜日夜７時半から一時間ほどの講演になります。ご返事お待ちいたしております。

Huntington's Japanese Garden now reopens

After a year-long closure and a $6.8 million renovation, the historic Japanese Garden at the Huntington Library, Art Collections, and Botanical Gardens in San Marino, reopened April 11 with a new ceremonial teahouse, teagarden, waterfall, accessible paths, and a restoration of the Japanese House.

The teahouse, called Seifu-an (the Arbor of Pure Breeze), was donated to the Huntington by the Pasadena Buddhist Temple. The authentic ceremonial teahouse is situated on a ridge above the existing Japanese House and set within a traditionally landscaped tea garden.

A newly created waterfall cascades down the slope, visually connecting the tea garden to the ponds below.

A restoration of the Japanese House, a structure built in Japan around 1904, was completed after a preservation architect revealed a number of original architectural features that had been covered over or removed during the course of the past century.

The Huntington Library is open to the public Monday, and Wednesday through Friday, from noon to 4:30 pm; and Saturday, Sunday, and Monday holidays from 10:30 am to 4:30 pm.

Closed Tuesdays and major holidays. General admissions are $15 on weekdays, and $20 on Weekends and Monday holidays.

Admission is free to all visitors on the first Thursday of each month with advance tickets. For information, call (626) 405-2100 or visit www.huntington.org

待望の春です。20１２年の合同お花見大会を下記のとおり開催いたします。
ご家族・友人・知人お誘いのうえ、春の一日を桜花の下で楽しみましょう。

・集合場所：Lake Balboa Park、
パビリオン#３近く
（現地集合、事前申し込み不要）

・駐 車 場：パビリオン＃３は公園入り口から一番奥にあります。　左がわに白鳥・黒鳥・鴨、、、などが遊ぶ湖が見えてきます。　近くの駐車場か道路脇をご使用ください。駐車スペースが狭いので出来るだけ誘い合わせ、相乗りでおいでください。

友人から情報がきました。チャリティーイベントですが、着物関係の部分だけをご紹介します。

Fundraiser with 30+ bazaar booths, including used kimono from Japan.
昨年このイベントに行って着物を買いました。現代モノが殆どで、着用できる着物が安価に入手できます。小紋柄と浴衣が多かったと思います。着物のほかに、foods, flower pen, handmade soaps, bags, cosmetics, clothes, accessories なども出品されるとのことです。震災一周年を記念するイベントに参加して一日楽しめると思います。

Happy New Year
We started wonderful new year on January 1st at Little Tokyo and "Oshogatsu
in Little Tokyo" events, Miss Kimono LA contest and 1-1-1 photo shooting went
really nice. Weather was nice (almost too nice!!) and many audience came to
see "Miss Kimono LA" contest on that day. Thank you very much for all of LA
Kimono Club supporters.

2012 Miss Kimono LA is Miss Mina Matsumoto and Miss Nana Kamimura became First Runner-up. We tried public voting at Miss Kimono LA contest and Miss Ikumi Nakamura #8 got "Public Voting Award" this time.
We are looking forward to announce "Miss Kimono LA" to all of media in LA as soon as possible.

<Miss Kimono LA Rules & Regulations>

LA Kimono Club will conduct the 2012"Miss Kimono LA" Contest on New Years Day in Little Tokyo on January 1, 2012 and will award two prizes consisting of the following:

Winner of 2012 Miss Kimono L.A will get
Kyoei Treasures Award- $200 in cash (sponsor by Kyoei Treasures) plus Winner's Plaque, Shodo master made Testimonial and 3 years of LA Kimono Club membership

1st Runner-Up
Kyoei Treasures Award- $100 in cash (sponsor by Kyoei Treasures) plus Winner's Plaqu, Shodo master made Testimonial and 3 years of LA Kimono Club membership.

To be eligible to enter, all contestants must sign up before Jan.1st 2012 11am at contest booth on Onizuka Street. prior to entering. Contestants may not be married or pregnant and over 18 of age. Pre-registration form will be available on LA KIMONO CLUB website. Registration fee will be $10 per contestant. (Only single woman never had baby can enter this contest)

The contest will be in Kimono in front of judges, beginning at 11:30am and award present at later on same day. There is no restriction in types of Kimono but more points in traditional rule.

Contestants will walk solo to judges then a full turn plus "strike a pose" you like and move in front of the judges and make a full turn again. (then proceed to the side of the stage zone)

The judges (consisting of Japanese Kimono expert) will select winner and winners will be announce at Noguchi Plaze around 1:00pm.

Winners will be on the stage in Weller Court same time as Kimono Fashon show on stage of “Oshogatsu in Little Tokyo” celebration.

*Winners will participate cultural events, such as "LA Kimono Club events" "Cherry Blossom Festival in LA""Cherry Blossom Festival in Monteray Park""Nisei Week Festival Parade" (Please nortify If you can not participate any of these events)

15 seconds speech in English about "How Ｉ met Kimono?"

2012 Miss Kimono L.A and First runner up will be invited to All of LA Kimono Club events, Cherry Blossom Festival in Little Tokyo, Cherry Blossom Festival in Monterey Park. Nisei Week Festival Parade in Little Tokyo plus the awarding ceremony for winners of a 2013 Miss Kimono L.A contest.

“Miss Kimono LA Contest” will be a fun and cultural event. Everybody is encouraged to join and enjoy the Contest and “Oshogatsu in Little Tokyo” cerebration.
