Japan’s foremost repertory theatre company makes its long-awaited U.S. debut with two spectacular full-length programs. Established by two of the greatest Kabuki actors of the early 20th century, Ichikawa Ennosuke and Kawarazaki Chojuro, Zenshinza revives rarely seen classics in the Kabuki repertoire and creates new works in the traditions of this 400-year old dramatic form.
Narukami (The Thunder God, 1724), presented in the aragoto (heroic) style, is one of the 18 greatest kabuki plays. This classic drama, in which a fiery priest captures the dragon rain god and brings drought to Japan, showcases the superhuman strength and valor of the kabuki hero.
In the comedic dance piece Chatsubo (The Tea Jar), a country bumpkin encounters many challenges when he comes to the city. A dance dramatization of a kyogen farce by the same title, it provides a light, comic counterpoint to the more serious drama.

９月１０日金曜日７時からPasadenaのNortonSimon Museumにおいて、Music and ｄａｎｃｅ ｏｆ Ｅｄｏ というテーマでのパフォーマンスに花柳若奈先生が出演されます。
通常のＭｕｓｅｕｍ 入場料で見ることができます。

鼓や琴の生演奏での踊りを見られる機会はめったにありませんので、
時間のある方は是非絵画等の鑑賞も含めてお出掛けになっては如何ででしょうか。
浮世絵の特別展示も行われています。

展示のご案内

いつも私の絵を紹介していただいてありがとうございます。
京都では、お盆の大文字の送り火が終わりました。
みなさん送り火はご存知でしょうか？
夜に、山に『大』の字で火を灯す行事です。

カナダで、着物の絵の原画を１点、展示していただけることになり、ご案内で書き込みさせていただきました。

益々ご活躍のようで嬉しいニュースです。　メンバー及び掲示板の読者のなかでバンクーバーに行かれる方がいらした場合、是非、応援ください。
　ところでロサンゼルスでは今週から日系最大の祭り事として有名な《二世フェスティバル》がスタートしました。　我々のクラブも10周年を迎えたのでその記念も含めて今年初めてパレードに参加致しましたのでメンバーの皆さん方もとても楽しんでおられました。　そのうちにYOUTUBE等に画像が投稿されると思いますので是非ご覧ください。
　ロサンゼルスは他の米国の地域に比べると涼し目の土地なので真夏の今でも夕方は場所に寄っては寒いこともあります。　京都はまだまだ残暑厳しいところでしょうが暑さに負けずに頑張ってください。

１０周年、おめでとうございます。ロサンゼルスで、着物姿の方がパレードで歩いておられる風景を思い浮かべるとうれしくなります。

京都では名物のような暑さが、まだまだ続いています。ロサンゼルスは涼しいところなのですね。イメージでは、太陽が眩しく、いつでも青空で温かい気候だと思っていました。

展示ですが、もし見に行っていただける方がおられるようでしたら、休館日の場合もあるようなのでギャラリーに連絡してみてください。

2010年、8月13日から16日までの三日間、ロサンゼルス　リトル東京にて七夕祭りが行われます。南加県人会協議会、小東京安全協会、二世ウィークファンデーションを中心に運営されています。　8月15日に二世パレードが行われるので調度重なり、沢山の方々がいらっしゃることになるでしょう。

Join over 40 origami experts and enthusiasts, including members from local and national origami clubs, at our extremely popular annual Origami Festival. This year we will also celebrate Tanabata-the Japanese Star Festival-on the same day. Eat before you arrive, free parking in lot 16 across from the gar-den in a non-metered space, paper included with price of admission.

本日、LA 着物クラブから12名のボランティアによる『Origami Festival』に参加致しました。　開場前一時間前に集まり、スタッフや参加者の一部に浴衣の着付けが行われ、その後、七夕をテーマにした短冊の作成と英語名を日本語名に変換してあげたりした内容で入場者に皆さまに喜んでいただきました。　近日中に写真がアップされると思いますのでチェックしてくださいね。　第一回ミス着物ＬＡに出場のSakieさんも大活躍でした。

We are writing with an “ask” to be a walker or donor/sponsor of the “Think Pink” 1st Cherry Blossom Festival SoCal Walk-A-Thon being held Sat. June 26th at Blair International Baccalaureate School, Pasadena from 8:30 am-12 noon. We call it Steppin' Up For Cherry Blossom!

This year, we had some interesting and challenging behind the scenes issues that came forth as well as the growth of the festival with 60,000 attendees and because of it – find ourselves in need to fundraise in order to keep the Festival going.


We are asking if you would consider one of the following:

1.Be a walker and help us raise funds through sponsors you are able to secure. The 'ask' for walk sponsors would be $5 or $10 or $20 or more whatever they feel they can give. And be a walker with us on the 26th at Blair.

2.Be a Guest VIP Walker. Where you do not have sponsors but you are making a donation and would like to walk and have fun with us!
3.Not able to attend but make a donation as a “Think Pink” Sponsor of the Walk-A-Thon. We’ve had donations from $10 to $5,000. our goal is to raise $20,000.

We do not make this request lightly – it’s a matter of preserving the festival so we can keep the “Culture Alive” and the festival can continue as a “Free’ admission event as we promote the diverse Japanese American & Japanese culture to mainstream America as well as work to promote a strong tourism base for the Little Tokyo district of Los Angeles. For those living or working in Pasadena that can't walk - you can also sponsor the Pasadena NW Ambassadors who will be walking - they are Volunteers of the Cherry Blossom Festival. Let me know if you would like to be a walk sponsor for them.

NEW COMPONENT:
The Cherry Blossom Festival SoCal is a Pasadena-based company. On September 18th, the Cherry Blossom Festival SoCal will present ‘CAMP STORIES” hosted by the Southern California Public Radio located in Pasadena. We will present some stories of local Pasadena residents and their life in the Internment Camps during WWII and beyond. This will be a traveling show. Camp Stories will be in Fullerton next Spring and we are seeking other locations and families for other shows.

＜平家物語＞　　６月１３日

LA立教会創立50周年、AAJUW創立40周年を記念して、日本舞踊、舞台朗読という異なる二つのアートフォームでのコラボレーションで、日本の古典＜平家物語＞を皆様にお届けいたします。

長年アメリカ国内外でご活躍の渡邉喜久子事若柳久三さんと、日本で朗読者として活躍され、また2008年、2009年にL.A.、S.F.で日米朗読の会をなさいました堀田紀眞さんは共に立教大学の校友です。このたびお二人のご好意で、＜舞と朗読の平家物語＞の公演が実現いたしました。

12世紀の後半、後白河法皇の院政下、朝廷、公家、僧兵、そして武士のさきがけとなった平家と源氏、さらに鎌倉にあった源頼朝、義経らを題材とした紆余曲折の物語が、琵琶法師によって語り継がれ、江戸時代の初期に平家琵琶検校が平家物語として校訂、出版し、流布したと言われています。今回は長大な編年体の平家物語の一部分を、舞踊と朗読でLAの皆様に味わって頂きたいと思います。数少ない琵琶奏者、川本旭鶴さんが特別出演して下さいます。
